Hillary’s images remind us not only of the solace of open spaces, so essential to the soul ~ especially when these days we live more and more in virtual worlds where no sun ever shines or birds sing ~ but also that in the hands of a poet ~ a visual poet in this case ~ even a silent photograph brings forth landscapes rich with the sounds and subtleties of the mystery unfolding.
"Tasmania’s wild identity, deep and subtle, speaks to those who venture into it’s embrace. To know it in all it’s seasons, it’s moods and it’s animals, to communicate a sense of its wild spirit and mystery - this motivates my photography.
Landscape photography is an expression of the unique relationship of the photographer with the land. My photography is an attempt to communicate the intimacy of that relationship and in so doing, stir the emotions and touch the spirit."
